Masterton Miniature Train Society
Phone: 06 377 0087 Email: Click here; Web-site: www.mstn.govt.nzIs set in the picturesque Queen Elizabeth II Park, Masterton. A group of volunteers run the Miniature railway. Operating two trains on weekends, public and school holidays from 10am till 4pm, Weather permitting and is available for hire for private hire. $1 per person uncer 2's free. We welcome preschools and schools to visit and be shown around and get a ride. Steam train will be available once repairs are completed. The Petrol train (red) Running most days we are open. A replica of 1950's New Zealand Railways in 15" gauge, built in the early 1970's by Masterton Jaycees to raise funds for charitable purposes, the railway is today operated by an incorporated society carrying on the tradition. Locomotive Dg755 is an outline replica of the 70ton, 750hp English Electric diesel electric locomotives that worked the Wairarapa Line following the replacement of the Fell Incline over the Rimutaka Range by the Rimutaka Tunnel in 1955. Of the 42 Dg's built for NZR, 4 survive in preservation. The locomotive and coaches were built in Masterton by Loader Engineering in 1972. The unit was repowered and converted to hydraulic drive in 1993 by Tulloch Farm Machines. 755 is currently powered by a 20hp Honda vee twin petrol engine with hydraulic drive to the axles. Music @ St Matthew's
"Music @ St Matthew's", a series of organ concerts, started in 2004 following the installation of the Parish's then new three manual Rodgers organ From classics of the great masters, to popular hits, and sounds of the Wurlitzer, the music played in these concerts covers a wide spectrum and caters for a variety of tastes. A special event is held to mark Anzac, with an Anzac Eve Concert. The Wairarapa Railway Restoration Society Inc. is based at the Historic Carterton Railway Station & operates the Carterton Community & Railway Museum. We are open every Sunday 10am to 4pm other times by request.Our building was built in 1880 of native NZ timbers and is a fine example of a building of its type still in operation in NZ today. It was the first rail heritage precinct in NZ as designated by the Rail Heritage Trust of NZ. The Museum houses railway memrobila with some community items. We have a railway motor trolley restoration division & we own our oun shunting locomotive. Visitors & new members welcome.
